I have received call from these very early in the morning and decided to ring back and HSBC do not have this as one of their listed numbers.
The comment above is WRONG!
It IS HSBC, it is a legitimate number and of course you will be asked for security information that one supplied when one started to do business with them. Staff calling are obliged by law to ask for certain information under the Data protection act.
Irresponsible posts such as that above annoy me. The solution is easy, just dial the number or the main telephone banking number and see who answers.
CAUTION: This is a scam, trying to obtain your card details for fraudulent use. The caller claims to be HSBC and will ask you for your card details. Having inside knowledge of HSBC procedures I can assure you that this is not HSBC. Do not give them any details. You can contact your branch and report the incident as identity theft. Remember the bank already knows your card number they will never ask for the full number.
